Like most 18 year olds, I wasn't completely sure on what I wanted to do following high school, but PDHPE and understanding the human body were things that I always found interesting. I went into a Bachelors of Sports and Exercise science thinking it was the natural progression from PDHPE, but it wasn't until I had visited a Physio for the first time after an ankle sprain (I love potholes) and was guided through the recovery process did I have the light bulb moment of what I wanted to commit myself too. I have had the pleasure of learning to love this profession ever since.
A part of physiotherapy or any health profession that can be often overlooked is helping patients understand what is really going on with their own body. Providing education and reassurance regarding why things are happening and guiding patients through some of their toughest hurdles is what I have found purpose in. There's no feeling like knowing you have put effort into benefitting the life of someone else.
