MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage and its many benefits

TIRED, SORE AND STRESSED OUT? Most people would agree a massage makes them feel good. But many probably don’t realise exactly how good a regular massage is for their overall health.  Did you know massage could improve performance, aid recovery, prevent and eliminate injuries, reduce stress and even enhance metabolism and circulation?  With so many alternative health treatments available it’s little wonder people get confused about where to go when they’re not feeling the best.  Here are just some ways a massage could help you!
  • Improve your health.  The reason you feel different after a massage is because it is healing and invigorating tired, aching or injured muscles by increasing blood and lymph circulation, which together with blood, supplies nutrients and oxygen and rids wastes and toxins. It is easy to understand why good circulation is so important to our health and why massage can be so beneficial just for this purpose.
  • For the athlete.  Many people believe aches and pains are an inevitable consequence to activity but it doesn’t have to be!!  Massage can actually reduce or eliminate pain associated with exercise and improve recovery by reducing irritation from waste.
  • Injury and recovery.  Massage also helps recovery from soft tissue injuries. Tissue growth and repair is accelerated by efficient circulation and appropriate stimulation.  Some injuries that massage can help with include headaches and migraines, frozen shoulder, back pain, tennis elbow, over-use injuries, shin splints as well as strains and sprains.
  • Heal the mind and body.  Everybody experiences some form of stress through work, family, the environment and society. Mental tensions, frustrations, and insecurity cause the most damage. Hormones released by stress actually shrink the vessels, inhibiting circulation. A stressed mind and body means the heart works harder. Breathing becomes rapid and shallow and digestion slows. Nearly every body process is degraded. Studies show stress can cause migraines, hypertension (high blood pressure), depression, some peptic ulcers, etc. In fact, researchers have estimated 80% of disease is stress related. Soothing and relaxing massage therapy can counteract the effects of stress.

QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED.  Activ Therapy massage therapists are all professionally qualified and registered, with years of experience providing “hands on therapy” for all conditions.  That way you can be sure to always be receiving safe, effective and tailored treatment.  Every time.

Types of Massage

  • Swedish Massage

  • A variety of specifically designed technique, relaxing the muscles by applying gentle pressure against the deeper muscles and bones. The subsequent increase of oxygen into the blood stream helps release toxins from the muscles.

  • Deep Tissue Massage/Remedial Massage

  • Relieves complaints of pain and discomfort by manipulating the muscles to restore normal functions. By compressing and applying friction along a particular muscle, deep sections of thick muscles are reached, particularly individual muscle fibres. This unlocks the fibres or muscles, releasing both toxins and deeply held tension points.

  • Sports Massage

  • Treatment involves Swedish massage, cross-fibre friction massage, deep compression massage and trigger point therapy to help to prevent athletic injuries, to prepare for athletic activity and to maintain optimal athletic condition.
