IDENTITY
1.1 The Activ Therapy Story starts with humble beginnings
The Activ Therapy story begins in 2012 where an Exercise Physiologist, a Physiotherapist, and a Chiropractor saw a major problem in the private practice model…
Bringing in over 30+ years of collective experience, they saw that “old-school” Physiotherapy services were offering nothing but machines and a few generic exercises, or Chiropractic treatments which consisted of a massage and 5 minutes of adjustments.
Although there were powerful benefits of each profession, the results were slow and, in most cases, only offered short-lasting relief.
Frustrated by the lack of results from the traditional approach, Richard and Andrew co-created a new and innovative approach to revolutionise the private practice sector.
Their goal was to find the most effective treatment approach in order to deliver the best results in each and every case, and thus the Activ For Life Signature System was created.
Activ Therapy is currently one of the most trusted and highly-reviewed Physiotherapy clinics in Sydney, with a combined total of over 300+ 5-Star Google Reviews across all locations.
The Activ For Life Signature System consists of 3 Key Pillars:
In their first year they were seeing hundreds of patients who were sick of the outdated traditional approach. Before long, news of this integrated approach spread as Patients were getting outstanding result from this simple yet extremely effective system that Richard and Andrew has developed.
From their first clinic in Chipping Norton, Activ Therapy expanded rapidly and now has 14 locations across Sydney, becoming the largest Provider in Allied Health in Southwest Sydney.
Our team of therapists – like you – are hungry to get better and deliver exceptional results to our clients. We now proudly service over 2500 patients every month and help thousands of people find the root cause of their problem, restore their health and regain their confidence and independence again.
Within these pages are secrets and hidden wisdom gleaned through 10,000’s of hours of experience, trialling new techniques and systems and finally figuring out what works.
It’s the quickest, simplest and most effective way we take new graduate therapists straight out of Uni from being uncertain and unsure of their ability, to becoming highly successful and confident practitioners, sometimes in as little as 12 months.
For the more experienced practitioner there is priceless knowledge in the art of communication and human psychology, something that is only learned through trial-and-error and never through a textbook.
Please don’t take this opportunity lightly – you are part of the select few who are chosen to do something more with your lives. And that is to have profound impact on people who are suffering from daily aches and pains which have plagued them for years and years, stealing their energy and taking away their enjoyment in life.
I’ve seen the happiest people in terrible moods because of headaches, young adults becoming depressed because of chronic back pain, and athletes becoming so angry and frustrated because of their pain stopping them from training at the gym. In fact, I’ve personally been all three of those people at one point or another.
I’ve also heard of a story of a client’s nephew committing suicide because of constant ringing in his ears which could have possibly been treated.
So when I say you’re in a position to change lives, this is no exaggeration.

1.2 What We Stand For
At Activ Therapy, we have a strong moral code which all of our Founders and team members stand by.
We believe that we all must actively share and display this code in our personal and professional lives in order to proudly contribute to our joint mission:
“To deliver 1,000,000 high-quality services and revolutionise Allied Health care by the year 2031...”
Without this code, it would have been impossible to grow from one location in 2012 to now 14 locations in 2021.
The main reason why our following grows is because of our 3 Core Values below which dictates all our actions and decisions at Activ Therapy:
Integrity
Integrity a commitment to ourselves and the people around us to always perform to the best of our abilities, especially when no one is watching. It involves being honest and transparent with everything and always doing what is right (not what is easy or convenient).
It means doing what you say you will, without any hidden agendas or expecting anything in return. It’s taking ownership for your actions and inactions, taking full responsibility and never blaming anyone or anything else for your shortcomings.
It is the absolute foundation of how trust is formed: trust with our clients, with our team, our referral partners, and everyone else in between. This is our core principle that we base all of our decisions on including our marketing, recruitment, promotions and leadership choices.
Without a strong sense of personal integrity, nothing else matters.
Growth
Our entire team is in constant pursuit for excellence – and that involves searching for ways to improve. That’s how we’ve become a team of exceptional therapists all across the state.
The strive for growth is broadly divided into two areas: personal growth and professional growth. Both are crucial in becoming a highly successful therapist and invaluable member of our team, and they often go hand-in-hand with each other.
We believe that the greatest investments we can ever make is in ourselves.
Teamwork
And that brings us to teamwork. With high integrity and a thirst for continuing growth, we can really make magic happen when we contribute to our team and move towards achieving a common goal.
There’s a saying that goes: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
In trying to achieve our mission of delivering 1,000,000 high-quality services by 2031, we definitely can’t do that by working alone. We need a team of highly motivated and skillful therapists to get us there.
In a team like ours, one plus one does not equal two – it equals 11.
By thinking big and surrounding ourselves with like-minded people, there are no limits to what we can achieve together at Activ Therapy.

1.3 The Activ For Life Signature System
In the past, we found that there would be times where our clients would come in for treatment, get better quickly, but down the track would still have the same problems come back again. These problems would be a re-aggravation of the same condition or in another body region altogether (but often related to the initial injury).
The Activ For Life Signature System is our way of helping our clients go from chronic pain and discomfort to being able to enjoy a lifetime of pain-free health and performance, in a way that is effective, predictable and sustainable.
Our System consists of 3 Key Pillars:
Through this tried-and-tested System, our therapists have helped thousands of clients get out of pain and return to their sport and function in quick time. Once you master our Activ For Life Signature System, you will notice that your clients will go through each of the below 3 Phases on their way to complete recovery.
The Relief Phase
The human body is extremely resilient and adaptable to change, so the pain or discomfort that your clients report to you are a sign that their body hasn’t been functioning well for a while. This can appear as muscle weakness or tightness, joint stiffness and/or neurological dysfunction.
During this phase, your hands-on techniques are targeted to restore pain-free range and movement as soon as possible so your clients can commence their actual recovery through exercise rehabilitation.
The Recovery Phase
Once pain and discomfort have been successfully addressed by the practitioner’s hands-on techniques, this is the best time to make improvements in your client’s motor control, strength and endurance.
The importance of this phase is to ensure that we treat the underlying problems that caused their pain and discomfort in the first place. Often times we need to address strength deficits, muscle imbalances, joint stiffness and poor motor control. Without completing this phase of recovery and restoring proper function through effective exercise rehabilitation, you will often find your clients returning frustrated because of recurrent injuries.
Remember, pain is the last thing to appear and the first thing to go away. Just because your clients’ pain is gone does not mean that they are fixed.
The Performance Phase
By this stage, your clients are now pain-free and the affected body region is moving freely with adequate strength and motor control. They would have returned to sports and work without any significant barriers.
The objective now is to ensure that they remain this way by improving their function, increasing their injury threshold and hence lowering their injury risk. During the Performance phase, we are challenging our clients’ ability (in a safe and controlled manner) to push past their own boundaries and get them to 120% or better.
Our aim is always to return our clients to a much higher level than when they walked in to see us.

1.4 Activ Therapy Mentors and Head Trainers
Our Activ Therapy Mentors and Head Trainers are those who have devoted many years of their lives to hone their skills in the profession. These are individuals who have walked the walk, not just talked the talk, and are a wealth of information for you to learn from during your entire career at Activ Therapy.
One day, this might be you.
Here are our list of Activ Therapy Mentors and Head Trainers:
Richard Kim

Richard started the first clinic with Andrew in 2012 at Chipping Norton. Early on in his career Richard recognised the lack of a clear career pathway for young therapists. It is this idea that helped grow Activ Therapy to where it is today.
Andrew Rivet
Co-Founder, Exercise Physiologist and Chief Operations Officer.
Andrew does it all. Opening the first clinic with Richard in 2012, Andrew was already an experienced Exercise Physiologist with a background working in workplaces, gyms and private clinics. This diverse skillset has allowed Andrew to be the backbone of the clinics and drive everything that goes on behind the scenes.
Lawrence Khuu
Partner and Senior Physiotherapist
Lawrence started as a Physiotherapist at the very first Activ Therapy clinic in Chipping Norton back in 2013. It was clear from early on in his career that he had a passion for business and teaching a team of therapists. His contribution has allowed Activ Therapy to grow to the size it is now.
Steven Ngo

Steve was an assistant with Richard and Andrew even before he graduated and has been part of the team longer than anyone. After graduating and quickly growing into a senior role, Steve became a partner at an Activ Therapy clinic. He has a clinical passion for biomechanics and sports rehab and will help cover key modules in your training.
Matthew Calabrese
